ITC Ltd..

Friends, ITC Ltd may be a new name for you.. but, brands such as ‘Classmate notebooks’, ‘Sunfeast biscuits’, ‘Aashirvad Atta’, ‘JOHN PLAYERS’ etc must be much familiar to you.. ITC is just the short form of ‘Indian Tobacco Company’. Tobacco is a business that leaves drastic problem among the Indian youth. But can you imagine such a company named exclusively in such a business could save and serve millions in India? Can you imagine it is providing livelihood to millions? Can you imagine it is providing education to 2,28,872 children in rural India? Yes, this makes ITC my favorite company.

ITC was incorporated on August 24, 1910 under the name 'Imperial Tobacco Company of India Limited'. Later, the ownership was Indianised and it became ‘Indian Tobacco Company Ltd.’, which later shortened itself to ITC Ltd. The Company had a humble beginning with a leased office at Kolkata. At first, as from the name, tobacco was the main business. Later, the business gradually diversified to paper boards, hotels, which gradually came to Agro-business. Now, in its hundredth year, it has a variety of integrations such as biscuits and Atta. Now, it has moved to soaps, cosmetics and even diverse..

As I told you in the previous topic, ITC is a good company having CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). Along by contributing to the growth of Indian economy, it has launched a variety of functions for the uplift of the rural India. One of which was the ‘E-Choupal’ scheme. The scheme aimed at bringing ahead the Indian farmers who had only primitive methods of cultivation, who depended largely on the monsoon, and in eliminating huge margins took by the mediators between the farmers and company which consumed their produce.

Before these scheme, the company has to purchase the raw materials at a higher price as determined by the mediators but, very little of it was paid to the producing farmer. Through the ‘E-Choupal’ scheme, the company successfully dealt directly with the farmers and provided them with timely information such as climate, and scientific methods etc through the help of Information Technology. It was a herculean task in providing IT access which spread over 10 states of the country benefiting millions of farmers which makes them earn up to their efforts and encourages them with a boon of good future.

ITC has made many other similar initiatives in public interest. Another one, which is remarkable, is its initiative in providing education to poor rural children. Apart from all these, ITC provides world class quality products for its customers at an affordable price. The company gives the best to the public. I said this makes ITC my favorite company. ITC is acting as a good corporate citizen and let us too join its initiatives.

Being in the Corporate World..

I have told you about my personal Life, likings and friends.. Though, I would Love to share more about it, I am putting it for a topic later.. Now, I would share with you some interesting macro level thoughts which I came across being a CA student. Chartered Accountants are the brains of the Corporate world, from its birth (Incorporation) to its death (Liquidation), a CA is essentially a vital part of a Company's business.

As Governed by the strong Companies Act, a Company needs the professional support from a CA for its functioning. Especially, in this Globalized and competitive world, CA's are the people acquiring the chief posts such as CEO s', CFO s' and so of a Company.  And, that brings CA a charming profession. One of the best part in the CA syllabus is the Corporate Laws, Auditing and Corporate Accounting. They are of course, so interesting.

We have a paper on "Business ethics", in fact one which is essentially needed. "Ethics is a personal attribute which enables a person to differentiate between the right and the wrong and to behave as such.." The ethics paper enriches us with good values and morals which the society expects from a CA professional and as a good citizen. And at last, it deals with 'Corporate Governance'.. The main thing I'm thinking to tell in this topic starts here..

A Company is a collection of lakhs of people and may even Crores. And so it is a cross section of the public. Any act done by the Company affects the public interest, So, it is essential for a Corporate professional for acting in a responsible and ethical manner. through Corporate Governance, a Company too gets its own responsibility as a citizen of the nation. Rather taking only the share holder's interest, it has to consider the 'Stake holder's' interest and has to work for the Society. [You may think what is the difference between 'Share holders' and 'Stake holders', in fact they are technical terms in management, a 'Share holder' means as you know, the one who holds a share whereas 'Stake holder' means one who is affected by the deeds of a company (Creditors, employees, Customers etc)].

This sounded much interesting for me. I made a few case studies on that. Two premier Companies of India, One the  'Tata group' and another, the great 'ITC Ltd'.. My next posts are meant about them. It will be coming soon... For now, Take Care.

CA Academy

As I told I am waiting for my results of my CA IPCC exams, I must say about CA Academy, which is another Vital part of my life.. You know, I am a bit sensitive soul., some matters attach me a lot to them, especially my school, as I told you, so is my Academy for me.. I joined Academy for my CPT classes, for me, it was a fresh start.. New subjects, new classmates, new teachers, everything was new for me.. And, it was the first step for my passion of Chartered Accountancy.. I was quiet for the first few days, later, though not hyper, I became an active part of my class.. I Loved the subjects that it made me studious, and it made me Love my classes.. My funny friends told that I were the 'Class Leader'.. As you, I too smiled, hearing that.. I took it as a good backing for my efforts.

In Academy, most of my classmates were not of my age, only a few were there.. Rest of them were there for CA after their graduation. I got some friends there, not 'some', in fact 'many' friends there.. Deepu, Lakshmi, arun chettan, Aadi, Arun das and so on... CPT class was there for only 2 months, in fact. Soon, Our exams came.. I took the challenge and His grace was showered on me, It brought me Success..

IPCC Days..

Its the time with the IPCC phase of my life.. Suresh sir, Our great teacher, told us that, "You are going to know the actual depth of Chartered Accountancy, children..". We smiled.. That made me feel more thrilling of what we are going to learn. The classes started, unlike CPT, classes were regular and made Our Sundays disappear.. Sunday to Saturday, morning 9:00 - 5:30 pm.. We met some legend teaching us. And, the greatest among them was Raman Sir, a genius. In spite of all his constraints, he fights to his life and makes the world around him wonder. A true genius, what else to say. nothing in the Commerce world is unknown to him, Cost Accounting (One of our best subjects), Financial Management, Taxation, Accounting, and what else remains, nothing.. everything is familiar to him.

The next was Lalji Sir, a great Tax specialist, he teaches taxes that we feel it so simple to learn the complex provisions of the IT Act. There is no one else in Kerala to stand with him in the subject. As I told, Suresh sir took Accounts for us. An emerging young CA, most probabily, our Articleship would be with him, if he admits us.. And, another one was Venu Sir, Our first Management guru. yet another genius having numerous degrees such as MBA, LLB, B.Com, CWA and IA&AS.. the prime most Accounting qualification in the country. His classes were so interesting that made us enjoy what we learn with living examples which came from his great experience.. I know, I am going so limitless, so I would like to confine myself though I have much to say about my teachers..

Another thing I must not leave is that about Thanu Sir, Revathy Chechi and my Loving friends there, That I'l share with U once later..

First benchers...

In +2, Me, Manu & Thampi, we were the first benchers.. Well, I don't know whether it's a qualification or disqualification.. And, here I'ud like to mention about Manu & Thampi.. Manu joined AVM in the 11th std and we became close soon in Our early 11th itself.. He is a talented guy having good passions with drawing, and many other artistic talents.. In the lunch breaks, his lunch box was the most popular and demanded one., at first, it got my chance to have it whereas by +2, others began to dominate and I had to satisfy myself with his tasty 'inchi achar', which he kept exclusively for me..

Thampi is the senior most guy in our class to be there in AVM. He is a very helpful soul and was also popular as 'kodakambi'.. Much to say, about him and other friends there, I'll share them, once later...

My +2 days..

My +2 days are the ones which I had best in my school. Though studied for six years before, they were the years which bought me close to my friends and made me know them more. Just after my 10th, I decided to join Commerce stream, but the one that still kept me in Science was the Love to my school and Ambili teacher's Chemistry class. I inquired more about CA and came to know that I have a path to my aim through Science group too.. That made me decide just to join my school in Science stream. Only after joining my school, I realized how much I love my friends., I felt that if I had chosen to leave to commerce in a different school, I'd have missed them badly.. And, in +2 I got some new friends like Reshmi, Kichu, Manu, Renju, so and so..

Introducing myself.

I am Abhijith, but for my parents and beloved ones, I'm 'Jithu'. And, for me, I feel so Loving to hear my friends calling me 'Abhi...'; for them I'm Abhi.. I'm in my stream of Chartered Accountancy finished the IPCC level examinations and waiting for my results. They will come by half of January.

After some tedious routines of my IPCC classes, I am now having my vacation now for cooling myself. I call my friends now, Love to have some warm chats with them. From such a chat with a genius guy (Our dear Sarathu), a thought to start bloging came in my mind. Sarath is a good bloger and he is the first one among us to start such a nice thought.

Well, when saying about Sarath, I must say about Our school Amrita Vidyalayam, which blessed me with some Loving friends like him. I studied there for eight years (from my 5th std to 12th) and once I got an opportunity to be the Deputy School Leader of AVM. And, those eight years have treasured in my heart some beautiful memories which I would cherish for ever.
